Muslim leaders in the Teso sub-region have used the Eid Mubarak celebrations to deliver a strong call for peace, unity and coexistence, urging believers to remain ambassadors of harmony in their communities after the holy month of Ramadan.

The message was delivered as Muslims marked the end of the fasting period, which began on February 18 and lasted 30 days. Religious leaders said Eid should not only be a time of celebration, but also a moment for reflection on the values of peace, compassion and togetherness that defined the holy month.

Sheikh Obilan Abubakar Umar, the Regional Assistant Mufti in charge of Teso and Karamoja, said Muslims must continue praying to Allah for global peace so that stability can prevail across the world. He noted that ongoing conflicts in different countries continue to cause anxiety and uncertainty, with leaders and communities unsure of when such wars will come to an end.

He said Uganda is already beginning to feel the effects of instability in other parts of the world, especially in trade and exportation. According to Sheikh Obilan, Uganda has been making gradual progress in exports, but conflict in foreign markets affects business and limits opportunities for the country to trade its goods.

He warned that war in one country can easily affect many others, and called on fellow Muslims to remain united in prayer for peace, fearing that continued violence could spread further if not addressed. He also said Uganda should guard its achievements in maintaining peace, especially after going through a peaceful electoral process, and should not allow any force to disrupt the country’s stability.

Teso District Khadi Sheikh Ramadhan Ibwakit also urged Muslims to continue living together in unity just as they did during Ramadan. He encouraged them to maintain the spirit of sharing that was demonstrated throughout the fasting period, not only among Muslims but also with non-Muslims.

Sheikh Ibwakit said the values of generosity, coexistence and mutual respect displayed during Ramadan should remain alive in families and communities even after Eid celebrations. He called on believers to continue praying for peace and harmony and to strengthen the bonds that unite people across religious and social lines.

Soroti City East Member of Parliament-elect, Hon. Attan Moses, praised Muslims for the love and solidarity they showed during Ramadan. He thanked the Muslim community for the compassion they extended to one another and to the wider society during the holy month.

He said the example set during Ramadan should inspire the entire community to embrace peace, unity and care for one another as the region continues to pursue stability and development.

As Eid celebrations conclude, the message from religious and political leaders in Teso remains clear: the spirit of Ramadan should not end with fasting, but should continue through peaceful living, prayer, unity and shared responsibility for the wellbeing of society.
