Soroti – Soroti City is reeling after a mobile money operator, Kokunda Patricia, 32, was shot during an armed robbery in the early hours of Thursday morning and later died at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital despite efforts by doctors to save her life.

According to a statement from the East Kyoga Regional Police, the incident was reported at Soroti Central Police Station under reference CRB 47/2026. The attack occurred at approximately 4:40 a.m. along Station Road, near Goalman Supermarket, at the Teso Coach stop.

Preliminary investigations indicate that armed assailants riding a motorcycle without a registration number intercepted the taxi in which Patricia had boarded, heading to Ocorimongin Cattle Market in Katakwi District. The attackers reportedly forced her out of the vehicle, robbed her of an undisclosed sum of money, and shot her multiple times.

Patricia was immediately rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital, where doctors attempted to stabilize her. Despite intensive medical care, she later succumbed to her injuries, leaving her family and the community in shock.

Police officers responded swiftly to the scene, collected evidence, and reviewed CCTV footage from nearby cameras. Their investigations have so far led to the arrest of two suspects, who are assisting authorities. Efforts continue to identify additional suspects and recover the stolen funds and firearms used in the attack.

The East Kyoga Police condemned the attack as senseless violence and reassured the public of their commitment to ensuring safety and bringing the perpetrators to justice. Citizens, particularly those handling cash transactions, have been urged to take extra precautions and cooperate with law enforcement.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attack unfolded directly in front of a street camera along Moroto Road, near Goalman Supermarket, capturing the shocking early morning incident that has left Soroti residents shaken.
