Soroti – Soroti Police have made a breakthrough in the case of the mobile money operator who was shot earlier this week, arresting two suspects believed to be involved in the violent robbery that left Kokunda Patricia critically injured and later dead.
The arrests came after investigators reviewed CCTV footage and collected evidence from the scene along Station Road near Goalman Supermarket. The suspects, whose identities are yet to be released, are currently assisting police with ongoing investigations.
Patricia, 32, had boarded a taxi early Thursday morning en route to Ocorimongin Cattle Market in Katakwi District when armed assailants on a motorcycle intercepted the vehicle. She was robbed of an undisclosed sum of money and shot multiple times before being rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Police say the recent arrests are part of intensified efforts to bring all perpetrators to justice and recover the stolen funds and firearm. Authorities are continuing to track down other suspects who may have been involved.
East Kyoga Police condemned the attack as senseless violence and urged citizens, especially those handling cash transactions, to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement.
Eyewitnesses say the attack was captured on a street camera along Moroto Road, near Goalman Supermarket, providing critical evidence that led to the arrests.
