KUMI - Police in Kumi District have arrested 41-year-old Lomongin Joseph in connection with an alleged case of aggravated defilement involving four minors. The incident has raised serious concerns about child safety in the region.

The victims, aged between five and nine, have had their identities withheld to protect their privacy. South Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson ASP Stephen Mukombe confirmed that the case was first reported following an incident on the 21st of the month, with additional victims coming forward as investigations progressed.

“We are handling a serious case involving multiple victims, and investigations are ongoing. We urge the public to remain vigilant and ensure the safety of children at all times,” ASP Mukombe said.

The suspect is currently in custody at Kumi Central Police Station, while detectives finalize inquiries prior to presenting the case in court. Authorities described the incident as deeply concerning, emphasizing the need for swift action and strong community cooperation to prevent further crimes against children.

ASP Mukombe stressed that protecting children is a shared responsibility. “Timely reporting of suspicious behavior can help prevent such incidents and ensure offenders are brought to justice,” he said.

The case has prompted renewed calls for increased awareness around child protection, particularly in rural communities where children may be more vulnerable. Police have reassured the public of their commitment to delivering justice for the victims and encouraged anyone with additional information to assist with the investigation.

As the investigation nears completion, authorities have stated that the suspect will be formally charged in court. Officials hope that swift legal action will serve as a deterrent against similar offenses in the future.
