Soroti City– Shocking details have emerged surrounding the brutal shooting of Kokunda Patricia, a 32-year-old businesswoman and mobile money agent, who was fatally shot after resisting armed robbers.

According to reports, the crime occurred at Teso Coach along Station Road, near Goalman Supermarket. At approximately 4:40 a.m., Kokunda had boarded a taxi heading to Ocorimongin Cattle Market in Katakwi District when she was intercepted by armed assailants riding a numberless motorcycle.

The attackers, reportedly armed with a rifle, forcefully pulled her from the vehicle and attempted to rob her of an unspecified amount of money believed to have been part of her business operations.

Kokunda resisted, struggling with the assailants over her bag, which appears to have been the central motive for the attack, before she was shot. She was rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Reports indicate that three attackers were directly involved at the scene, though they are suspected to be part of a larger group of up to eight individuals behind the planned robbery. The attack unfolded in broad daylight, but witnesses reportedly did not intervene due to fear.

A postmortem report confirmed that Kokunda sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including a shattered leg, resulting in severe bleeding. Her body remains at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital mortuary while relatives from Kazo travel to the hospital.

Security agencies responded swiftly, documenting evidence and recovering crucial exhibits. CCTV footage from the area has provided leads that led to the arrest of two suspects, including Kokunda’s boyfriend, who are currently in custody to assist with ongoing investigations.

Authorities continue to pursue the remaining suspects and are urging anyone with information about the robbery or the gang involved to come forward. Additional report via TBS Radio
