A funeral journey from Nabbingo to Kisoro was thrown into confusion after the vehicle transporting the body of Moses Ahimbisibwe repeatedly broke down along the Kampala–Masaka highway, leaving mourners stranded in Lukaya.
The 46-year-old boda boda rider, who died at Kiruddu National Referral Hospital after battling diabetes and hypertension, was being transported for burial in western Uganda when the Mitsubishi Fuso Rosa developed mechanical problems shortly after departure at around 7pm.
Despite initial efforts to continue the journey, the vehicle eventually came to a complete stop in the early hours of the morning. Mourners were forced to remove the coffin and place it by the roadside as they sought mechanical assistance.
The situation attracted onlookers and rising tension among the group. Some mourners reportedly acted out in distress citing cultural interpretations of the unusual breakdown.
A family member, Tibihika, said the deceased had previously made remarks suggesting he would “cause trouble” after his death, though he did not elaborate.
Police and local authorities have not yet issued a statement as investigations into the incident continue.
Authorities are expected to provide further guidance as the community awaits clarification on the incident.
