TESO – Fresh developments indicate that the Woman Member of Parliament for Amuria District is safe and that efforts toward her anticipated release are reportedly progressing, following several days of public concern over her whereabouts.
The matter has drawn widespread attention from political leaders, constituents, and members of the public, prompting calls for clarity amid conflicting reports and growing speculation.
Reports from multiple media outlets indicate that the legislator was allegedly detained on May 23, 2026, in Kampala shortly after visiting the residence of former Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among. Since then, her whereabouts were initially unclear, triggering concern among family members and political stakeholders.
Soroti City East Member of Parliament Attan Moses Okia has since provided additional clarification, stating that the legislator is currently in the custody of the Special Forces Command (SFC) at Kasenyi and remains in stable condition under government authority.
Okia made the remarks while responding to questions raised by members of a WhatsApp group (Attan the gardener 2026-2031) , where participants had been seeking clarity over the legislator’s situation.
“She is with the Government of Uganda, detained by the SFC at Kasenyi. Her husband and the MP for Amuria County were allowed access through the intervention of the new Speaker of Parliament,” he stated.
He added that those who visited her confirmed she is well, although she remains under interrogation.
“They reported that she is well and living in a home setting but still under interrogation. She isn’t in any danger according to those who visited her on our behalf as the Teso Parliamentary Group,” he said.
Okia further noted that the delegation that accessed her included her husband and the Amuria County MP, who were reportedly facilitated to meet her following parliamentary intervention.
He also stated that the Teso Parliamentary Group (TPG) has resolved to pursue behind-the-scenes engagements aimed at securing her release in the coming days.
“Based on the above background, as TPG, we agreed to do background engagements as we push for her release hopefully this week as it was promised to the team,” he added.
Meanwhile, security agencies have yet to issue a comprehensive official statement confirming the circumstances of her detention or responding to the various claims circulating in the public domain.
