Late Okabe's Son wins Serere County by-elections

The son to the late MP for Serere County, Emmanuel Omoding has been announced as the winner in the Serere County parliamentary by-elections replacing his late father Bishop Patrick Okabe who perished in a motor accident.

 

Emmanuel Omoding who polled 15,638 votes while his competitors who include FDC's Emmanuel Eratu who polled 1,252 votes,ANT's Alice Alaso who polled 3,335 votes,IND candidate Martine Onguruco polled 2,523 votes and NRM's Philip Oucor polling 13,206 votes.

 

Meanwhile the total number of ballot papers counted were 36,766 ,total number of valid votes cast for candidates were 35,954,total number of rejected (invalid) ballot papers were 812 and 170 spoilt ballot papers.

 

The Serere district Returning Officer Cheptegei Nangendo Slyvia announced Omoding Emmanuel as the winner of the Serere County by-elections today's evening while at the Serere District Head Quarters.

 

"Accordingly, as returning officer for Serere Electoral District and in accordance with section 58(1) of the Parliamentary Elections Act, (as amended), I declare Omoding Emmanuel who obtained the largest number of votes, to be the elected candidate for Serere County constituency ,Serere Electoral District ", She announced.

 

While addressing media shortly after his victory, Emmanuel Omoding thanked God for the election outcome.

 

"I see my self working with all people,we shall continue to work on the projects that papa started", 

 

He also said that he will work with other candidates so as to develop Serere and make it a better place for all as they too have great ideas.
