SOROTI : Bank of Uganda has embarked on a journey of greening and beautifying Soroti university through the planting down of trees.
The financial institution during the tree planting exercise carried out at the university contributed different tree species worth 25m ugx with a vision of mitigating climate change.
According to Charles Mugisha chief accountant bank of Uganda, they came up with the activity dubbed "greening Soroti university" following a town hall meeting held in Soroti in which they were approached by the stake holders of Soroti university who requested their partnership to help green the institution and thus signed an MOU.
"We are going to grow over a thousand trees , Bank of Uganda is looking at the environment governance to principles of combating climate change,we have handed over fruit trees and other species that add beauty to the environment worth 25m ugx and urge the administration to also carry out the maintenance of the trees and hope to do more as they have vast land", he added.
Meanwhile professor Ikoja Robert the university vice chancellor
appreciated the support of the seedlings and further added that any support is whole heartedly welcome to the university from any well-wishers as the university is for all people.
