BUKEDEA DISTRICT – The Bukedea District LCV Chairperson, Mary Akol, has officially withdrawn from the race for the district chairperson position as of July 22, 2025.
Akol submitted her withdrawal letter to the NRM office in Bukedea, just a day before the scheduled election, leaving only two contenders in the race—Simon Ongura and Joseph Onange.
She cited ill health as the reason for her decision not to participate in the election.
Mr. Charles Otai, the Bukedea District NRM Party Registrar, confirmed her withdrawal, stating that Akol's health condition could not allow her to continue in the race.
Ms. Akol had previously replaced the late Moses Olemukan, who was elected as Bukedea District Chairperson on an independent ticket after defeating Mr. William Wilberforce Tukei, the NRM flag bearer in the 2021 elections.
