Amuria District – In a bid to ensure safety and security during the Easter festivities, LC3 Chairpersons from Morungatuny and Olwa Sub-counties in Orungo County, Amuria District, have launched night patrols to curb potential criminal activities.
Joseph Odeng, the LC3 Chairperson of Morungatuny Sub-county, has instituted several preventive measures, including a ban on the night transportation of animals by both boda boda riders and trucks. He also directed that all pedestrian movement cease by midnight.
“These efforts aim to safeguard people’s property and ensure that Easter is celebrated peacefully,” Odeng said during a community security engagement. He also warned youth notorious for disrupting peace during such celebrations, vowing to apprehend and prosecute offenders.
Odeng further called on the public to collaborate with security organs by reporting any suspicious behavior, especially among the youth. He also urged local council leaders (LC1s) to conduct intelligence-led operations to identify and deal with individuals disturbing the peace.
Meanwhile, Francis Obiko, the LC3 Chairperson of Olwa Sub-county, echoed similar sentiments, urging residents to remain vigilant and avoid leaving homes unattended while gathering in trading centers at night.
“As leaders responsible for security, we’ve implemented measures to guarantee the safety of our people. Night patrols are already underway, and we expect Easter to be celebrated peacefully without any criminal incidents in Olwa Sub-county,” Obiko affirmed.
In a related development, Emmanuel Ocen, the FDC flag bearer for the LC3 seat in Tubur Sub-county, Soroti District, appealed to security agencies to remain alert during the festive period. He criticized instances where laxity among officers has led to theft and urged homeowners to take primary responsibility for monitoring their properties—especially animals—during the night.
“Security begins at home. Let us all be watchful and ensure that this Easter is not only joyful but safe for everyone,” Ocen emphasized.
With night patrols in motion and local leaders on high alert, authorities hope for a crime-free Easter celebration across the region.
