SOROTI - The Iteso community mourns the loss of a stalwart leader as Vanasio Vance Omome, former Prime Minister of the Iteso Cultural Union and leader of the Ikaruo clan, passed away at Doctor's Plaza in Soroti City.
His daughter, Catherine Alungat, delivered the somber news, marking the end of an era for Iteso leadership.
Omome's legacy extends back to 1995 when he was a founding member of the Iteso Cultural Union. Throughout his illustrious career, he served as the Deputy Prime Minister under the administrations led by Emorimor Papa Paprus Imodot and Emorimor Papa Augustine Osuban Lemukan.
However, his tenure as Prime Minister faced a tumultuous end during the leadership of Emorimor Papa Paul Sande Emolot Etomeileng. Omome made the difficult decision to resign from his position, citing frustration with the centralization of power by the Emorimor. This centralization had significant implications for administrative and financial matters, affecting other officials within the union.
Omome's resignation occurred amidst controversy surrounding Emorimor Paul Sande Emolot Etomeileng's installation, which had sparked legal action by the House of Elders due to its contested nature. His departure paved the way for Andrew Ochole to assume the role of Prime Minister.
As the Iteso community reflects on Omome's contributions, his commitment to preserving Iteso culture and advocating for the welfare of his people remains unmatched. His dedication, wisdom, and unwavering leadership will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
