A powerful story of perseverance, faith, and divine intervention has unfolded at Soroti Secondary School, where 21-year-old student Agnes Apolot has been awarded a full scholarship to complete her A-level education. Raised in a humble family from the rural Amuria District, Apolot’s journey was marked by years of struggle, but her unwavering faith and determination ultimately led to this life changing opportunity.
Apolot, who is currently pursuing Divinity, Entrepreneurship, and Geography at Soroti Secondary School, comes from AKamuriei village in Abarilela Sub-county. Her parents, who are peasant farmers, were unable to provide the financial support needed for her education, forcing her to stay home for an entire year after completing her Senior Four. This year-long gap in her education was a significant obstacle, and when she came to Soroti Secondary School, she faced the challenge of paying double the usual fees due to her prolonged absence.
“I didn’t have money to go back to school. I stayed home for a year, waiting for a breakthrough. When I eventually came to Soroti Secondary School, I was told I had to pay double the normal fees because I had stayed away for so long,” Apolot explained during an exclusive interview.
Despite the financial strain and constant threat of being sent home for non-payment, Apolot remained hopeful. She relied heavily on prayer, trusting that God’s timing would lead her to a solution. “I didn’t pay any money upfront. Every time they tried to chase me home, I would keep praying. I believed God’s timing is always perfect,” she said.
Her unwavering faith did not go unnoticed. Apolot’s dedication and leadership were evident during the recent confirmation ceremony at Soroti Secondary School. As the student responsible for mobilizing her peers for the event, she was the only student chosen to stand with Bishop Kosea Odongo at the altar in front of over 5,000 students. This rare honor caught the attention of the bishop, who was moved by her story and spiritual leadership. In a remarkable act of kindness, Bishop Odongo instructed the school administration to grant Apolot free education until she completes her A-level studies.
In an emotional moment, Apolot found herself overwhelmed with gratitude. “I couldn’t believe it. I had been praying for a breakthrough, and then it came when I least expected it. I am so grateful for this opportunity,” she said, her voice filled with emotion.
The school administration, led by Headteacher Wilfred Oluka Okeriau, acknowledged the challenges Apolot had faced and expressed their commitment to supporting her educational journey. Okeriau praised the bishop for recognizing Apolot’s potential and for intervening in such a meaningful way.
“We are incredibly grateful to Bishop Kosea Odongo for identifying Agne’s potential and taking action to ensure that she has the chance to continue her education without the burden of financial stress,” said Okeriau. “Agnes has always been a dedicated student, but we didn’t fully understand the extent of the struggles she was facing. We are now committed to supporting her as she completes her A-levels.”
Apolot’s story has inspired many, serving as a reminder that perseverance, faith, and humility can overcome even the greatest challenges. Reflecting on her journey, Apolot encouraged other students facing similar hardships to hold onto hope and trust in God’s plan.
“Even when things seem impossible, you should never give up. God’s timing is always perfect. It may take time, but He will always make a way,” she said.
Now, as Apolot continues her education free of charge, she hopes her story will inspire others who are struggling to see that there is always a way, no matter how difficult the path may seem.
Her journey is not just about overcoming financial obstacles, but also about the power of faith, community support, and the belief that every struggle can lead to a breakthrough. For Apolot, what began as tears of hardship has transformed into tears of joy a testament to the incredible power of hope and perseverance
