NGORA - The Executive Director of Engeku foundation in Kapir County, Ngora district Simon Julius Engeku has encouraged farmers across Teso to take the advantage of these rains to plant first-growing food crops.
Engeku while in an interview with our reporter emphasized that farmers should plant crops which take three to five months to mature like maize, sweet potatoes, groundnuts, cabbage, sorghum, greengram, water melon, simsim, cassava among others.
According to Engeku, inclusive participation in Agriculture will not only income to the society but also offer food security to the country.
Engeku who has expressed interest to contest as Kapir County Member of Parliament under National Resistance Movement - NRM ticket says that the absence of food and a basic source of income renders them (farmers) more vulnerable.
"If you take the advantage of this rainy season especially those with access to land, they have a lot to offer to the nation interms of food security and ultimately put money in their pockets hence improving on their livelihood" Engeku said
Meanwhile, Hon Juliet Achayo Lodou the Ngora County Member of Parliament warns the public against wasting their time in trading centers doing unproductive activities like playing cards, ludo, omweso but rather use that energy to practice agriculture.
Achayo further warned against early morning drinking of alcohol an act she says affects food production.
