Kapelebeyong - The Kapelebyong Central Police Station (CPS) has apprehended Ajotu Philip, the primary suspect in the murder of Apio Scovia, an 18-year-old student from Homeward Secondary School. Apio was tragically found dead in her room on June 12, 2024.

The arrest follows a recent press statement by ASP Obukulem Edison, the acting PRO East Kyoga, which provided details about the case.

According to the statement, Apio Scovia, a daughter of Mr. Eotu David and a student in Senior 3 at Homeward Secondary School in Serere District, was discovered dead by her brother, Osako Tom.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning. "At around 0400 hours, the brother of the deceased went outside for a short call. Upon returning, he encountered his sister Apio also going for a short call. Approximately five minutes later, he heard a pig making noise, prompting him to investigate. He then saw a man fleeing from his sister's room," explained ASP Edison.

Despite attempting to chase the man, Osako Tom was unable to catch or identify him. He then found his sister dead in her room and immediately informed their father. The family reported the matter to CPS Serere under case reference CRB:285/2024.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Apio had received death threats from her boyfriend, Ajotu Philip, on June 8, 2024. These threats were not reported to the authorities at the time. It is believed that the couple had conflicts, possibly fueled by Ajotu's relationship with Apio's best friend.

ASP Edison urged the public to refrain from violence and to report any threats or disputes to the police promptly. "We caution everyone against all forms of violence and encourage reporting issues to the relevant authorities as they occur," he stated.
