As one way to combat family breakdown, the Katakwi district community has been warned against rumor-mongering, as they will face a shilling 100,000 fine, 12 cane lashes, and a three-month expulsion to counteract the negative effects of rumor-mongering, which has caused many families to break apart.
Gabriel Ogele, also known as Abuderi, of the LC1 Angopet Cell, Katakwi Town Council, has warned that anyone caught spreading rumors will face legal consequences.
He points out that the new law will assist to prevent and regulate gender-based violence, which has led many families to break up.
Ogele adds that the LC1 committee of Angopet cell, Katakwi town council, will follow the legislation to regulate such acts in the community.
He also urged local inhabitants to support developmental programs and projects conducted by both government and non-governmental organizations.
“My office receives 3 to 5 cases of in a day and this has made the village to lagging in development,” LCI said
