SOROTI CITY - Residents of Soroti City have been called upon to embrace a monthly citywide cleaning initiative aimed at restoring the city's cleanliness and promoting environmental responsibility.

The "Keep Soroti Clean" campaign, officially launched at Independent Gardens, is a partnership between the Uganda Bikers Association and Rodney Mukula, Managing Director of Voice of Teso Radio and Member of Parliament aspirant for Soroti City East Division. The launch event drew a significant crowd, highlighting strong community enthusiasm and support.

Speaking at the launch, Rodney Mukula emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a clean city. He designated every last Saturday of the month as "Cleaning Day" and pledged to personally lead the exercise. "With cooperation between residents, leaders, and city authorities, Soroti can regain its reputation for cleanliness," Mukula said.

As part of the campaign, the Uganda Bikers Association and Mukula provided essential cleaning supplies, including reflector jackets, hand gloves, litter pickers, sacks for trash collection, and refreshments for volunteers.

Angela Ssemukutu, President of the Uganda Bikers Association, expressed her gratitude to Soroti City residents for turning up in large numbers. She also urged local authorities and leaders to institutionalize the practice by participating every last Saturday of the month.

Beatrice Arigo, the Cleaners' Supervisor for Soroti City, rallied all residents to support the campaign, emphasizing that cleanliness should be a united effort, cutting across social backgrounds and statuses.

Highlighting the Association’s broader vision, Mathias Kamugasho, Coordinator of the Uganda Bikers Association, noted that the team has already organized cleaning campaigns in four cities, including Soroti, and plans to expand the initiative nationwide. "Our goal is to promote a cleaner Uganda through community mobilization and collective effort," Kamugasho said.

Residents who participated in the launch praised Rodney Mukula for spearheading the initiative, expressing optimism that the campaign would significantly improve the city's environment and quality of life.

The "Keep Soroti Clean" campaign marks a strong step forward in community-led urban management, with leaders and residents alike committed to making Soroti a model city for cleanliness in Uganda.
