Kapelebyong District – James Okwakol has officially declared his bid to contest for the Kapelebyong County parliamentary seat in the upcoming elections, with a strong focus on promoting mindset change as the cornerstone of his campaign.

Speaking to the media, Okwakol cited poor leadership as a key contributor to the persistent underdevelopment in the area. He believes that meaningful progress will only come through transformative leadership and a shift in the way residents think and approach development.

“The people of Kapelebyong are blessed with land and potential, but our biggest challenge is mindset. If we can change how people perceive work, productivity, and opportunity, then development will follow,” Okwakol said.

At the heart of his campaign is a commitment to empowering communities through mindset change initiatives. Okwakol says he will prioritize civic education and community engagement programs to inspire productivity, self-reliance, and innovation among residents.

Agriculture remains a critical pillar of his manifesto. Okwakol has promised to champion improved farming methods, promote the cultivation of suitable crops for local soils, and push for increased support from government and development partners. He believes revitalizing agriculture is key to ensuring food security and creating stable incomes for the people of Kapelebyong.

In addition to agriculture, Okwakol is also eyeing improvements in education and healthcare. He pledged to lobby for better facilities, equip schools and health centers, and ensure qualified professionals are placed in rural areas to serve the population effectively.

Infrastructure development is also high on his agenda, particularly road rehabilitation and expansion. He noted that poor road networks continue to hinder economic activities, especially trade and access to essential services.

Security is another concern the aspirant intends to address. Okwakol expressed his determination to work with relevant authorities to improve safety and ensure peace within the district.

With the NRM party primaries around the corner, Okwakol remains confident about his chances. He believes his message of change and development resonates with the people of Kapelebyong, and he is ready to offer alternative leadership focused on inclusive growth and accountability.

“The time is now. Our people deserve better. My goal is to serve with honesty, transparency, and a vision that uplifts every household in Kapelebyong,” he concluded.

Okwakol is expected to formally launch his campaign following the conclusion of party nominations this week.
