Speaker of Parliament of Uganda Rt. Hon Anita Among held a significant meeting with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican this afternoon, marking a key diplomatic engagement for the Ugandan official.
The high-level meeting took place shortly after the Pontiff concluded his weekly General Audience, an event during which Pope Leo XIV delivered a message on divine love and conversion. He reminded the faithful that they are "God’s beloved children, embraced by His forgiving love," emphasizing that "sincere conversion enables us to journey toward salvation, even in our human fragility."
Today's audience and subsequent meeting with Speaker Among constituted the Holy Father’s final public engagement at the Vatican before his scheduled departure later this afternoon for a brief stay at the papal summer residence in Castel Gandolfo.
Beyond her audience with the Holy Father, Speaker Among also engaged in a separate discussion with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who was also present at the Vatican. The two officials reportedly discussed matters of mutual interest concerning Uganda and the Holy See, highlighting the multifaceted nature of Speaker Among's diplomatic agenda in Rome.
