As the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) prepares to roll out this year’s national examinations for both O’Level and A’Level, Halcyon High School, one of the most prominent academic institutions in eastern Uganda, has dedicated its candidates to God in a special service . The school, known for its consistent academic excellence, continues to build a reputation for producing remarkable results.

Headteacher Paul Mark Onyait expressed confidence that this year’s group of candidates would excel, attributing the school’s strong performance to both discipline and prayer. He recalled last year’s success, which was achieved after the school was prayed for and blessed by Bishop Kosea Odongo of the Church of Uganda, Soroti Diocese. “It has always been the tradition of Halcyon to dedicate students to God before they sit for their examinations. According to a report by the Daily Monitor, Halcyon was ranked 42nd in the country last year, becoming the second-best school in Teso,” Onyait said. This year, the school has registered 658 candidates for O’Level and 211 for A’Level, all of whom he believes are ready to excel. He further noted that Halcyon is among the few schools in Teso that have fully mastered the implementation of the new curriculum.

In his sermon, Bishop Kosea Odongo commended the school for consistently putting God at the center of its activities. He urged the students to embrace discipline and hard work as they prepare for their examinations.

“This school has always been known for producing great minds, and I believe this year will be no exception,” the bishop said. He cautioned candidates against examination malpractice, encouraging them instead to trust in their abilities and in God.

Representing the parents, Francis Ejibu encouraged the students to work diligently so that their efforts bring pride and joy to both families and the school community. “When students succeed, the celebration is shared by both children and parents,” he emphasized.

State Minister for Fisheries and Woman MP for Serere District, Hellen Adoa, who is also the proprietor of Halcyon High School, expressed gratitude to parents for trusting the institution with their children’s education. She highlighted the school’s commitment to supporting families, explaining that Halcyon sponsors one child when a parent enrolls four children. Adoa reaffirmed her commitment to nurturing academic excellence while emphasizing the school’s role in promoting values of faith, discipline, and resilience.

Halcyon High School’s dedication service once again underscored its unique blend of academic rigor and spiritual grounding, setting the tone for what many believe will be another outstanding performance in the forthcoming national examinations.
