SOROTI - Jeressar High School has once again demonstrated its strong dedication to nurturing patriotic values and leadership among its students through a successful handover ceremony of the Patriotism Club, held yesterday at the school’s main hall.

The annual event marked the official transition of leadership within the club, ushering in a new team of student leaders tasked with upholding and promoting patriotism, discipline, and civic responsibility within the school community.

In his address to the gathering, Jockim Thembo the Patron of the Patriotism Club commended the outgoing team for their commitment and encouraged the incoming leaders to serve with integrity, humility, and focus.

“Be loyal to your leaders and follow what you are told. In patriotism, there is no payment — it is a calling. Stay committed, be self-driven, and remain humble,” he said.

The patron also pledged to support the production of the school’s anthem in a professional music studio, noting that this would enhance its quality and ensure its use in formal functions. He praised the Patriotism Club for its long-term impact in shaping students morally and emotionally, emphasizing its role in producing responsible, nation-loving citizens.

The ceremony featured spirited performances from the school’s Scout group, whose morale songs and disciplined displays added color and energy to the day’s proceedings.

The event was further enriched by the presence of Mr. Hatari Raymond, the chief guest and a respected scout trainer based in Soroti City and the broader Teso region. In his keynote speech, Mr. Raymond emphasized the importance of character, discipline, and strong social networks.

“Surround yourselves with people who inspire you and can guide you in the right direction,” he said. “Avoid distractions, work hard, and do the right thing at the right time, in the right place, with the right people.”

He urged students — especially the girls — to remain resilient in the face of challenges, pointing out the growing opportunities available to women in the job market. He encouraged all learners to embrace hard work and take pride in their personal development.

“Female students must recognize the advantage they have and use it wisely. At the same time, male students must rise to the challenge and prepare themselves for the future,” he added.

As part of the ceremony, the newly appointed Patriotism Club leaders officially took office, pledging to represent the student body with integrity and ensure that the club’s values are actively upheld.

They promised to promote ethical behavior, maintain discipline, and continuously champion patriotism across all school activities. Their pledge emphasized inclusivity, moral leadership, and the responsibility to lead by example.

“We are committed to being true representatives of the students and to upholding the principles of patriotism and ethical conduct,” said the newly elected Club Chairperson.

The ceremony concluded with the symbolic handing over of office to the newly appointed leaders, who took an oath to serve diligently and uphold the club’s ideals.
