The night of October 4, 2025, unfolded with musical brilliance as Navio, Uganda's acclaimed hip-hop artist, headlined an unforgettable orchestra concert at the Serena Hotel. This landmark event saw Navio courageously merge the rhythmic intensity of hip-hop with the sophisticated elegance of a 40-piece orchestra, crafting an experience that lingered long after the final notes faded.
The fusion of sounds was striking. Navio took the stage, breathing new life into hits like Ngalo, Bugumu, and On and On (featuring Keith Sweat) as orchestral arrangements wove classical instrumentation seamlessly with his sharp hip-hop delivery. Strings cascaded behind his lyrics; woodwinds danced intriguingly with urban beats - a marriage that felt innovative yet anchored Uganda's evolving music narrative.
Supporting acts added vital spark to the proceedings. The Mith brought their characteristic edge; Flex DPaper flowed with smooth precision; Feffe Bussi injected raw passion; Babaluku contributed distinct flavour. International guest Kadiatou Holm from Sweden added transcontinental flair, hinting at Navio's reach beyond Uganda's borders.
One of the night's delightful surprises came courtesy of Hajjat Namyalo, aka Chief Muzzukulu - a Senior Presidential Advisor known for her vivacity. She electrified the crowd, showcasing unexpected vocal talent by leading attendees in an exuberant Happy Birthday for a lucky guest, etching memorable warmth into the evening.
The event's details reflected its prestige. Held at Kampala's Serena Hotel - an elegant fitting backdrop - the concert ran from 7:00 PM into late night hours. Tickets ranged from UGX 150,000 for standard entry to UGX 10,000,000 for platinum packages. MTN Uganda, via MTN MoMo, played a pivotal sponsorship role, underscoring telecoms' engagement with Uganda's creative sector.
Navio characterised the blend as “East Africa’s heartbeat meeting global rhythms in symphonic harmony”, spotlighting Uganda’s music evolution. With collaborations spanning Wizkid, Burna Boy, Sauti Sol, and Bobi Wine, Navio's reputation as East Africa’s most awarded hip-hop artist feels well-earned.
The diverse attendees - business leaders mingling with artists and dignitaries like Chief Muzzukulu - signalled Kampala’s music circles took note of this genre-bending showcase.
