Soroti City — The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for the Eastern Region, David Calvin Echodu, has issued a strong warning to party flag bearers against disunity and involvement in activities of independent candidates, saying such actions threaten the party’s chances ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Speaking during a meeting with NRM flag bearers from Soroti City at Nok T Gardens on Monday evening, Echodu stressed that the ruling party remains best positioned to win in Soroti City provided its members remain united, disciplined and focused on a common agenda.

Echodu, who is also the NRM flag bearer for the Soroti City West Member of Parliament seat, told the gathering that electoral victory or defeat rests squarely in the hands of party members themselves.

“NRM has the best opportunity to win. It is all in our hands. If you lose elections, don’t blame FDC or anyone else blame yourselves,” he said.

He emphasized that unity among flag bearers is non-negotiable and warned that any party leader or candidate found attending or supporting rallies organised by independent candidates would face disciplinary action, including suspension.

“Independents are our friends; we love them. But let them wait for five years and come back to win the flag,” Echodu said.

“We want unity that has never been seen before one agenda, one direction.”

During the engagement, Echodu urged flag bearers to re-energise their support bases and intensify grassroots mobilisation, noting that the strength of the NRM lies in its structures at the local level.

“The party’s strength is its structure, and you are that structure,” he told the candidates.

He further pledged to work closely with the flag bearers throughout the campaign period, assuring them of his personal commitment to walk with them to the finish line as the party prepares for the 2026 polls.

The informal but candid meeting left the Soroti City East team motivated, with participants expressing readiness to strengthen coordination and drive the NRM campaign forward.

As the political contest in Soroti City begins to take shape, Echodu’s message underscored the party’s strategy: consolidate internal unity, enforce discipline and present a united front to secure victory in the upcoming elections.
