National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate for Gogonyo County member of parliament by-election in Pallisa district, Okoboi Joseph Opolot has withdrawn from the race.
The news of Opolot pulling out from the race was announced by Emorimor Papa Sande Emolot after holding a meeting with Opolot.
According to Papa Emorimor of Teso, Mr. Okoboi Opolot agreed to step aside and withdraw his candidature for any leadership role in Gogonyo in view of peace and unity.
“By virtue of authority entrusted in me, I Papa Lo Iteso, the Emorimor of Iteso cultural union, I have had cordial discussions with my son Opolot of Gogonyo, Pallisa district on various matters of common interest pertaining to the unity of our people the Iteso and the Country at large. Upon my advice and in the interest of our people and the unity of the region, he has agreed to step aside and withdraw his candidature for any leadership role in Gogonyo,” the statement read.
This decision now means that Orone Derrick (NRM) will face off with Isa Bantalib Taligola (Independent) in the by-election due to take place on August 11, 2022.
