In the wake of widespread complaints about power outages, Ugandan songstress Sheebah Karungi took to social media earlier today to express her dissatisfaction with UMEME, Uganda’s primary electricity distribution company. She criticized the company for its failure to provide electricity to her Munyonyo mansion for three consecutive days.
Via the X platform, the former Team No Sleep singer vented her frustration, highlighting the challenges of living without electricity in one of Uganda's upscale residential areas. Sheebah revealed resorting to charging her devices at neighboring shops during the outage.
Threatening a physical visit to the company if her issue remained unresolved, Sheebah's followers rallied behind her social media post, echoing their dissatisfaction with UMEME's service.
"WABULA UMEME TEMUNTAMYA WANGE. So, I have been home for 3 days without electricity. It’s 2024, and I’m charging my phones at my neighbors’ kadduka. In Munyonyo, what do you mean? Unless you want to give me a job! I have contacted you for days and no response!!! Come on!!!," she exclaimed in her tweet.
Shortly after the post gained traction, with netizens criticizing UMEME, the singer confirmed that her power had been restored.
"Thank you @umemeltd… My electricity has been restored! But seriously though, did I have to expose you here to respond? What are the customer service lines for??" she questioned.
Expressing concern for those without access to Twitter, Sheebah questioned the fairness of relying on social media for issue resolution.
"Kati omuntu atali Sheebah… atalina twitter… nga wabulijjo akola atya??? #ThisIsNotFair," she stated.
She also pondered the hypothetical situation of a local person without Twitter resorting to public complaints for service.
"If it was my Kaduuka neighbor who charged for me that didn’t have power, should she also post here on Twitter to get your services??? #Tulikuki."
