SOROTI - The journalism community in Teso is in mourning following the passing of John Olila, the cherished Ateso news anchor from Kyoga Veritas Radio, Soroti Catholic Diocese. Olila, who had been the trusted voice of Ateso news on 91.5 FM for years, passed away earlier today at Dr's Plaza.

The news was confirmed in a heartfelt statement on the radio station's official website.

“It is with deep sadness that Kyoga Veritas 91.5 FM announces the passing of John Olila, our Ateso news anchor, who passed away this morning at Dr’s Plaza. John’s voice and presence have been a guiding light for many listeners, and his loss leaves a profound void within our station and the community,” the statement read.

For years, Olila’s voice brought reliable news and a compassionate touch to Teso listeners. Known for his empathy, dedication, and professionalism, he was more than a news anchor – he was a bridge to the community, a person who connected deeply with his audience. His warm yet authoritative delivery of news was unmatched, making him a beloved figure and a source of trusted information for thousands.

In a touching tribute, Kyoga Veritas Radio extended condolences to Olila’s family, friends, and all those who had been impacted by his work. “As we mourn this tremendous loss, we extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his life and work,” the station said.

Colleagues and friends have since shared their grief, paying homage to Olila's remarkable contributions.

Evelyne Adwoko, a fellow journalist at Kyoga Veritas Radio, expressed her sorrow in a heartfelt message: “Ooh, my dear ‘little Johnny’ who never gets ‘tired.’ It’s hard to accept that the Lord had to pluck a little flower for himself in you tonight. Even yesterday, you worked well, never showing tiredness. I’m sure you were planning to read the morning news if only you had woken up. My heart is broken, but I’ll always thank you for your tireless dedication. May God keep you in His loving embrace.”

Noah Omuya, CEO of Aica Communications, shared his condolences: “Pole Sana, John. May his soul rest in peace. Death only defines a life lived. May the Almighty God Elohim comfort his family and colleagues.”

Steven Ojacor of Teso News Tower expressed shock at the news: “Ooooooh my God! This is so sad. Imagine such a young, hardworking man. I have no words, but that’s life. It’s really short. MHSRIP.”

Suzan Nanjala of Corporate News Magazine also shared her grief, saying, “May the good Lord grant him eternal peace. Indeed, he has gone too early.”

John Olila will be remembered as a diligent and compassionate journalist who was deeply committed to his craft. Colleagues recall his hard work, simplicity, and dedication to research. His contributions to journalism in Teso have left an indelible mark on the community, and he will be dearly missed.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be finalized, with further details to follow. As Teso mourns the loss of one of its trusted voices, the legacy of John Olila’s journalistic spirit and his dedication to community service live on in the hearts of many.
