Soroti City - Residents of Kichinjaji Ward in Soroti City East Division gathered for a crucial community engagement meeting with Isaac Orego, an aspiring Member of Parliament for the Soroti City East Division seat.
The event provided a platform for locals to voice their concerns, particularly regarding the socioeconomic challenges that have hindered progress in their community.
The meeting, which saw representation from several local cells including Usuk, Aliabu, West Cell, East Cell, and Central Cell, was centered around the growing poverty levels and the limited access to income-generating opportunities. Many residents expressed the need for long-term, sustainable solutions to uplift the community and improve living standards.
Amenyo Christine, the Chairperson of God’s Will Savings Group, shared her personal perspective on the struggles faced by women and grassroots organizations in Kichinjaji. She highlighted how financial constraints have been a significant barrier to their growth, despite the community’s willingness to work hard and succeed. “We have the determination, but we lack the financial support and necessary skills to develop our initiatives,” she explained, calling for targeted support that could enable these groups to thrive.
Philip Omongin Ongimu, a veteran soldier and Secretary for Elders in Usuk Cell, echoed these sentiments. As the Local Council One representative, he underscored the importance of focusing on marginalized groups, particularly the youth and elderly, who face additional challenges in securing employment and income opportunities. He appealed to Isaac Orego to prioritize community empowerment and support for these vulnerable groups, stressing that their contributions are often overlooked.
In response to the community’s concerns, Isaac Orego addressed the gathering with a clear message of commitment and hope. He acknowledged the difficulties faced by the residents and emphasized the importance of fostering an environment that supports economic empowerment for all.
“I am committed to working with the community to establish programs that equip women, youth, and the elderly with the skills and resources needed to generate income and build a sustainable future,” Orego stated. He encouraged the residents to organize themselves into groups, which could unlock opportunities for them to benefit from both current and future development initiatives.
The MP aspirant’s remarks were met with optimism from the attendees, many of whom expressed their hope that this engagement would lead to real, lasting change in Kichinjaji Ward. “We are hopeful that with leadership like Mr. Orego’s, our concerns will not just be heard but will lead to concrete actions that improve our livelihoods,” said one attendee.
This meeting marked a pivotal moment in the lead-up to the 2026 general elections, as political aspirants like Isaac Orego seek to connect directly with constituents and understand their needs.
As Orego continues to build relationships with the community, many are hopeful that his vision for economic empowerment and sustainable development will translate into tangible benefits for Kichinjaji Ward.
