Amuria District — Aspiring leaders have been called upon to show concrete results and a genuine commitment to service long before seeking votes from the electorate.
Teddy Anyuk, a parliamentary aspirant for Orungo County in Amuria District, has urged politicians to go beyond rhetoric and demonstrate tangible efforts in community development ahead of elections. She emphasized that voters deserve leaders who exhibit a genuine ability and willingness to serve even before assuming office.
"Leadership is not about promises; it is about action. Voters must elect those who have already shown what they can do—not those who wait for power to start acting," Anyuk stated while addressing residents.
Backing her call, Joseph Odeng, the LC3 Chairperson of Morungatuny Sub-county, echoed concerns over politicians who offer empty pledges during campaigns, only to neglect their responsibilities once elected.
“Many of our people have been disappointed by leaders who vanish after winning elections. We must support individuals who prove their capacity to deliver, even before they hold office,” Odeng said.
Voters in the area also shared their frustrations, pointing to the chronic issue of unfulfilled promises which has led to poor service delivery across communities. They vowed to shift their support towards candidates who actively engage in development initiatives and demonstrate integrity before elections.
"This time, we shall not be swayed by sweet words. We want to see what you have done before we trust you with power," one resident remarked.
The call by Anyuk and Odeng has sparked a broader conversation across the district, encouraging a more accountable and action-based approach to leadership—a move many believe could transform the political landscape in Amuria.
