Uganda’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament for Orungo County, General Jeje Odongo, conducted a comprehensive assessment tour across the county this week to evaluate the progress made on development pledges issued at the start of his parliamentary term.
With only six months remaining before the end of his current tenure, General Odongo emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in leadership. In an exclusive interview with Teso Vibez, he explained the motivation behind the tour, saying, “It is good to move around and assess the extent to which our promises have been fulfilled.”
General Odongo pointed to several notable achievements that have transformed the county’s development landscape. Chief among them is the widespread installation of electricity across Orungo County, a milestone he described as critical to improving livelihoods and enabling economic activities.
“Electricity has been successfully connected to many parts of the county,” he noted. “This has brought about significant change, especially in business hubs and trading centers.”
Education has also been a major focus during his term. According to General Odongo, the provision of computers to schools has enhanced digital learning and prepared students to compete in an increasingly technology driven world.
“We made sure that computers reached schools, especially in rural areas, to help bridge the digital divide,” he added.
Infrastructure development was another key promise made by the MP. During the tour, General Odongo highlighted significant upgrades to the county’s road network, citing improved access and reduced travel time within and outside the region. He remarked that most roads in the area have now reached “acceptable standards” and pledged that further upgrades would continue where necessary.
The enhancement of lighting in trading centers,one of his major campaign pledges was also reported as largely fulfilled. He explained that improved lighting has not only boosted commercial activity in these centers but also improved security for residents and traders alike.
“This tour is part of the accountability I owe to the people of Orungo County,” the General stated. “It is important that leaders not only promise but also report back on what has been done.”
In addition to development matters, General Odongo addressed the recent National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries held in Orungo County. He commended the peaceful conduct of the elections and praised both organizers and participants for their maturity and discipline throughout the process.
“The primaries were conducted in a very organized and peaceful manner. I am grateful that no lives were lost,” he said, emphasizing the importance of unity and democracy within the party.
As his term draws to a close, General Odongo reaffirmed his dedication to serving the people of Orungo County. He pledged to continue supporting initiatives aimed at improving public services, infrastructure, and economic empowerment in the area.
“We are not stopping. The work continues, and I remain committed to seeing Orungo County advance in all areas of development,” he concluded.
The assessment tour serves not only as a reflection of past efforts but also as a signal of continued leadership engagement as the region looks ahead to future development and representation.
