MUKONO - In a distressing turn of events, a police officer stationed at Kisoga Police Station in Mukono, identified as Constable Sadiq Hussein Baguma, has tragically taken his own life by hanging. The apparent motive behind this heartbreaking act is the alleged loss of Shs800,000 belonging to a suspect in betting activities.
Baguma's lifeless body was discovered in his residence at Namanve barracks, underscoring the gravity of the situation. According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy police spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan, Baguma had received the sum of Shs800,000 and other items intended for a suspect on March 4, 2024, but failed to deliver them.
Subsequently, following the loss of the money, Baguma sought assistance from his relatives to raise the funds he had reportedly lost in betting. Despite initially claiming that the money was stolen from him, suspicions arose that he had actually squandered it in gambling activities.
Owoyesigyire disclosed that Baguma resorted to issuing threats to his relatives, warning them of dire consequences if they did not assist him in raising the lost funds.
The grim turn of events culminated on March 8, when neighbors at Namanve police barracks were compelled to intervene after detecting a foul odor emanating from Baguma's residence. Upon entry, they discovered the officer's lifeless body hanging from a wooden decker bed.
As authorities grapple with the aftermath of this tragic incident, investigations have been launched to ascertain the circumstances leading to Baguma's untimely demise and the events surrounding the missing funds.
