Like a sandcastle in the tide, our cultural traditions are being washed away by the waves of modernity — and it's time to sound the alarm!
As I reflect on the state of our society today, I am deeply troubled by the alarming rate at which our cultural traditions are eroding. The very fabric of our identity is unraveling before our eyes, and it’s time we take notice.
In recent years, I have observed a disturbing trend. The birth of a child, once a joyous communal celebration, has become a solitary affair. Parents now choose names without consulting elders, casting aside the wisdom of our ancestors.
Greed and materialism have taken hold, with individuals prioritizing personal gain over community and tradition. The once-sacred naming ceremony has become a calculated transaction, where millet is sold rather than shared.
Young wives are increasingly possessive, reluctant to share resources with their in-laws. This possessiveness is causing tension and confusion within households, eroding the sense of community that once held our families together.
False accusations and mistrust are rising, with some young women even accusing their mothers-in-law of witchcraft. This not only damages relationships but also denies elders the chance to participate in childcare and socialization.
We must act now to preserve our traditions. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and our ancestors to ensure the survival of our cultural heritage.
Let us find a balance between progress and preservation. Let us embrace our traditions and pass them down to future generations.
Let us hold fast to our heritage with the fierce passion of a lioness protecting her pride — for the future of our cultural identity depends on it!
