Some schools in Teso Sub-region may not be allowed to open this  term after authorities threatned  closure of all unregistered schools.

An on-line report from Uganda Schools Guide of 2018 states that Serere has 27 schools that are not registered while Ngora district has 24. Meanwhile, Soroti Municipality and Katakwi district have nine unregistered schools each while Kalaki district has three.

Ngora Resident District Commissioner Ambrose Onoria says that all unlicensed schools will not be allowed to open for the first term come February 3rd, 2020, adding that they have issued notices to all the schools that have not met the requirements to release children they have admitted.

Soroti Municipal Education Officer Patrick Emokor adds that most of the schools listed in that survey lack good premises and quality teachers.

According to Uganda Schools guide, Teso has over 1,388 schools with 213 nursery schools, 993 primary schools, 157 secondary schools, 6 BtVet schools, 10 Tertiary schools, 3 Teachers Colleges and 3 special needs schools.
