SOROTI CITY  – In a strong show of unity, traders in Soroti City have pledged to focus on advancing their businesses and economic growth, putting political engagement aside. The commitment came during an engagement session hosted by Katongole Godfrey, President of the Uganda National Traders Alliance (UNATA), at Hyde Park.

Godfrey used the platform to address the growing trend of business figures shifting their focus from trade to politics. He urged traders to refrain from getting involved in political activities, emphasizing that their strength lies in collective action to address issues impacting their businesses.

"Business people must unite for the common good and focus on goals that improve the business environment. Politics often divides us and distracts from what we are truly here to do—grow our enterprises," Godfrey said.

The UNATA President's remarks were met with strong support from the traders, many of whom expressed their commitment to prioritizing economic development and community growth. By avoiding political distractions, they aim to strengthen the business community in Uganda, working together for shared success rather than getting entangled in political rivalries.

"We believe that our collective effort towards better trade practices and policies that benefit our businesses is the key to our success," one trader stated. "Politics will only divide us; we must focus on what brings us together—our businesses."

Godfrey encouraged the traders to continue advocating for policies that support economic growth and improve the trading environment in Uganda. His appeal also aimed to remind the business community that their unity is their greatest asset, and that the path to prosperity lies in collaboration rather than political division.

UNATA’s efforts to promote unity within the business sector are seen as crucial for fostering a conducive environment for trade and commerce across the country. As the traders in Soroti reaffirmed their dedication to business-focused goals, the message was clear: political distractions will not stand in the way of their collective progress.
