Soroti City — Jeressar High School has been commended for its exceptional discipline and commitment to academic excellence by Soroti City’s Acting Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Chemutai James Small. This recognition came during a career guidance session with students held at the school premises earlier today.

Chemutai, who was warmly received by the school administration and student body, expressed his admiration for Jeressar High School, describing it as a model institution producing well-rounded and focused learners.

“I am excited to be here at Jeressar High School, a school known not only for its academic performance but also for discipline and involvement in sports and other positive activities,” Chemutai said.

In his address to the students, the RCC urged them to remain focused on the primary reason they are in school — to learn and prepare for a successful future.

“Linger around the pen and the book,” he advised. “Do first things first and the next things next. Be smart, respectful, and a good timekeeper. These are the keys to success.”

Chemutai encouraged students to embrace education as a lifelong journey, using a metaphor of “five uniforms” representing different stages of academic growth — nursery, primary, secondary, graduation gown, and finally, the professional or life uniform that comes after succeeding in school.

He warned learners against dropping out of school or taking shortcuts, reminding them that today’s standard is no longer just literacy, but acquiring higher education and skills relevant to a competitive world.

Quoting Proverbs 9:11, he called on students to fear God and build meaningful networks. “There is a time for everything,” he noted. “This is your time to study, and though the roots of education may be bitter, the fruits are sweet.”

The RCC also lauded the school for its record of peaceful conduct, noting that Jeressar High School has not been associated with strikes or unrest like some institutions.

“I want to thank you for your discipline. I’ve never heard of strikes in this school. When you engage in such actions, you only delay your dreams and damage your future,” he said.

He further encouraged the learners to “cultivate their gardens carefully,” a metaphor for being intentional and diligent in their studies. “Whatever you sow in your mind today is what you will harvest tomorrow. Seek advice from your teachers and stay on track.”

As the school prepares for its student leadership elections, Chemutai urged students to conduct themselves peacefully and respectfully. “Share your manifestos and let your fellow students vote wisely. Lead with vision and integrity.”

The event marked yet another milestone in Jeressar High School’s commitment to holistic education, combining academic excellence with strong moral values, discipline, and leadership training.
