Ngora District — In a stunning political upset, Amongin Jacqueline, a sitting Member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) and seasoned political figure, suffered a crushing defeat in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries for the Ngora District Woman Member of Parliament seat.

The surprise victor, Pedun Josephine, a relatively unknown figure in national politics, emerged as the NRM flag bearer after securing a commanding 15,884 votes, representing 54.49% of the total ballots cast. Amongin, who many expected to cruise through the primaries given her status and experience, managed 10,879 votes, amounting to only 37.27%.

The official results were declared on July 11, 2025, by NRM Returning Officer Okwi Daniel, who commended the peaceful nature of the electoral exercise and confirmed Pedun’s clear lead.

Pedun Josephine, whose campaign largely revolved around community empowerment, inclusive development, and a renewed voice for Ngora’s women and youth, appears to have struck a chord with voters who are increasingly frustrated with what they view as out-of-touch leadership.

“This is not just about a win,” a jubilant Pedun supporter told local media. “It’s a revolution. The people of Ngora have spoken loud and clear — we are ready for a new chapter.”

Pedun Josephine’s victory positions her as the leading contender for the parliamentary seat in Ngora District under the ruling NRM party. Her decisive win marks a significant shift in the district’s political dynamics and signals strong grassroots support.

With the general elections fast approaching, all eyes are now on Pedun Josephine as she prepares to take her message of development, inclusion, and women’s empowerment to the wider electorate.
