KAMPALA - Political discussions across Eastern Uganda intensified on Wednesday evening after former National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee Chairman for Eastern Uganda, Mike Mukula, met with Calvin Echodu during the swearing in dinner gathering held at Silver Springs Hotel in Kampala.

The high-profile meeting attracted attention from political observers and supporters alike, with many interpreting the encounter as a significant moment in the evolving political dynamics of the region.

Mukula, in a message shared on his X platform after the gathering, described the meeting as one rooted in unity, cohesion, and mature politics.

He said leadership should focus on building bridges, strengthening understanding, and promoting collaboration for the good of communities and the nation.

“In the spirit of unity, cohesion, and mature party politics, I am delighted to join my brother Hon. Calvin Echodu,” Mukula stated, adding that leaders must embrace dialogue, mutual respect, and teamwork instead of division.

He also commended Echodu, who serves as NRM Vice Chairman for Eastern Uganda and MP for Soroti city west, for organizing what he termed a thoughtful initiative that brought together leaders, friends, and well-wishers in an atmosphere of solidarity and friendship.

Although the gathering was presented as a unity dinner, political analysts and supporters across Teso widely discussed the significance of the meeting, especially considering the growing political interest and influence of both leaders in Eastern Uganda.

Observers noted that the public appearance of the two influential NRM figures under one roof could signal efforts toward strengthening cohesion within party structures ahead of future political engagements.

The meeting has since generated widespread debate on social media, with some supporters welcoming the gesture as a sign of political maturity while others interpreted it as a possible indication of shifting alliances within the region’s political landscape.

Mukula concluded his remarks by calling for inclusive leadership, patriotism, and collective responsibility among leaders as Uganda continues pursuing peace, development, and national transformation.
