Emorikikinos group that aims at uniting against covid 19 in Soroti city yesterday gave out foodstuff to the covid 19 patients at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital.
Boniface who is the spokesperson of the organization told the media that their NGO came about with a few members who got hurt after losing their beloved ones to covid 19 and other members of the public with an aim of helping those fighting the virus and also fight stigma by providing social support.
‘’After talking to the in-charge of the covid 19 unit, we were told that there were about 74 covid 19 patients admitted and today we are donating basically foodstuff to them. As for the first visit, we donated sanitizers, Jik, fruits, and other items but today we are donating different fruits and foodstuff to all the patients and also the medical staff in the covid unit ’’ he said
Margret Etilu a member of the NGO urged the caretakers of the covid 19 patients to always pray and motivate the patients so that they don’t suffer from stigma and stress as it's one of the reasons that kill them.
The Soroti Covid19 Focal person, Dr.John Etolu who is also a member of the Emorikikinos group appreciated the team for donating the food items as the hospital has only been able to provide lunch for the patients as the rest is left to the family and also urged the public to continue supporting the covid unit as its currently overwhelmed with many covid 19 patients from the region as compared to other covid 19 units from the whole country.
‘’I have seen a number of items like lemons, sugar, bread, posho, soap, Irish potatoes and others which will be of great help to the patients’’ Dr. Etolu said
This happens to be the second donation by Emorikikinos group in a period of four weeks.
