The Soroti referral hospital has run out of the covid 19 vaccines amidst surging cases of covid 19.

Dr. John Wilson Etolu a consultant physician at Soroti referral hospital and the team leader in charge of Covid 19 treatments in the Teso subregion raises concern that the vaccine got done after they registered an uptake of the vaccine by the public.

‘’We have already sent that report to the ministry of health and we believe that by the end of the week, the hospital should have acquired the vaccine and urge every Ugandan above the age of 18 to get vaccinated and however, we mostly call upon the high-risk groups, individuals above the age of 50and those in high-risk groups’’ he said

‘’We begun the vaccination early this year and so far more than 3000 people have been vaccinated and no vaccine got expired as speculated in the public, from the time Soroti got declared epicenter of covid 19 in the region, most of the cases have been coming from other Teso districts like Kumi, Ngora, Serere, Kaberamaido thus making Teso an epicenter of the virus." Dr. Etolu added

Currently, the number of covid 19 patients admitted in the unit is 49, as 39 are on oxygen while 10 are not on oxygen as the number of those admitted daily has reduced to 5 patients as the majorities are mainly the elderly above the age of 50 years a change that Dr. Etolu appreciates a lot.

‘’The number of those under home-based care is about 113 patients and at most times delayed to be brought to the unit thus leading to some of their deaths and a number of them are not vaccinated, we appreciate all the support rendered to us by the ministry of health as we now have enough oxygen cylinders of over 300 as about 60 are being consumed daily, we have two dedicated trucks donated by the health ministry for the transporting of oxygen cylinders.
