The Minister of Local government, Raphael Magyezi, has today asked the Soroti City councillors to go slow on the operationalization of Cities.
Magezi was giving counsel to councillors undergoing a three-day induction at the Plains country home. He said the LGA is undergoing amendments to strictly stipulate and distinguish Cities from Districts because of the complexity of urban management.
"Urban council challenge is quite unique as compared to the rural districts. However, challenges are part of mgt so I urge you to be patient with us as we work on the enabling laws for cities," Magezi urged. He asked councillors to embrace politics as a service that calls for a huge sacrifice to the electorate.
He cautioned against conflict of interest especially when it comes to contracts.
The Minister reiterated total political support and cooperation to ensure the City achieves its objective.
