KATAKWI - Parishioners of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Katakwi gathered for a farewell ceremony bidding adieu to Reverend Father Remi Nyengere, who served as the Dean of Katakwi deanery and Parish Priest of St. Stephen Catholic Parish for nine years. Fr. Nyengere has been posted to Arusha, Tanzania, with Reverend Fr. Olivier Wayesu stepping in as his successor.
During a poignant thanksgiving mass at St. Stephen’s secondary school, Vice President Jessica Alupo expressed gratitude for Fr. Nyengere's close relationship and dedicated service to the parish.
The ceremony, adorned with vibrant colors, witnessed Fr. Nyengere being lifted high by catechists amidst heartfelt gifts and presents from the parishioners.
Vice President Alupo, reflecting on the personal connection she shared with Fr. Nyengere, acknowledged the bittersweet nature of the day, extending prayers for his safety in Tanzania. She warmly welcomed incoming Parish Priest Olivier Wayesu, assuring continued support in administration and church programs.
Highlighting the positive relationship between the government and the church, Alupo emphasized the commitment to working closely with religious institutions and leaders nationwide. A cow was presented to Fr. Nyengere as a symbolic gesture during the ceremony.
Expressing gratitude, Fr. Nyengere thanked Vice President Alupo and the parishioners for their overwhelming support, promising to remain an ambassador for Katakwi in Tanzania. Incoming Parish Priest Fr. Wayesu acknowledged Fr. Nyengere's contributions and pledged to continue the spiritual, social, and economic development initiatives in St. Stephen’s parish.
Superior Vicent Lubega appreciated Vice President Alupo's friendship with the church and extended best wishes to both outgoing and incoming priests, urging continued support from the Christian community.
