Kumi District - Kumi University has issued an urgent security alert following the reported loss of a firearm within its premises, prompting heightened concern among students, staff, and the surrounding community.

In a notice released by the Office of the Dean of Students on Friday, university authorities revealed that a firearm went missing on the night of June 11 under circumstances that remain unclear. The institution described the incident as a serious security matter and warned that the weapon could potentially be in unauthorized hands.

According to the statement, the disappearance of the firearm presents an immediate threat to the safety and security of members of the university community as well as university property. As a result, students and staff have been urged to exercise increased vigilance and promptly report any suspicious activities.

University officials advised members of the campus community to remain alert, particularly in isolated or poorly lit areas, and to pay close attention to any unusual behavior, unattended items, or individuals attempting to conceal or dispose of objects.

The administration further cautioned against handling any suspicious object or firearm that may be discovered. Instead, individuals are encouraged to leave the area immediately and notify security personnel or law enforcement authorities.

In an appeal for public cooperation, the university called upon anyone with information that could assist in locating the missing firearm or clarifying the circumstances surrounding its disappearance to come forward. Authorities emphasized that even seemingly minor information could prove valuable to ongoing investigations.

"We deeply regret the anxiety this incident may cause, but we believe that an informed and alert community is a safer community," the notice stated, underscoring the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding campus security.

The statement was signed by Rev. Eliabu John Moses, Dean of Students, who assured students and staff that the university is treating the matter with the utmost seriousness and is working closely with relevant security agencies.
