Even after well-wishers turned up following the sad story of Anyumel Anna Grace a mother of two who is around her mid-thirties and was rotting alive went viral on media, after a long battle in silent pain, the efforts turned into tears of agony.
Anyumel passed away this evening at Soroti regional referral hospital where she was admitted for further treatment, the sad news was passed out by George William Okoit the chief mobilizer of the Save Anyumel campaign.
"It's of great shock to the whole family, friends, and well-wishers who stood by Anyumel Anna who was found rotting in her home in Soroti and was only assisted by her 14-year-old daughter who dropped out of school to look after her mum", Okoit said.
He also added that" A number of activities like car wash and others were organized to save her life, Anyumel was having an improvement and this gave hope to many but we lost her this evening, We tried our best, needed her to live but the Lord had better plans, our sister and friend have gone to be with the Lord. She passed on this evening at Soroti regional referral hospital where she was getting treatment, Burial arrangements will be communicated in due course", he added.
It should be noted that Her story went viral after the media published it, her 14-year-old daughter Faith Atai who dropped out of school was forced to stay home and nurse her mums' wounds while in an old mabati house located in the Soroti City east with the hope that she recovers while her young sister aged 10 had to continue with the school as she was sponsored by an organization.
According to one of the caretakers, the sad story of Grace's illness started during her first pregnancy, she became paralyzed after delivering her first born, and couldn't walk but her faith made her walk again after praying to the almighty for healing then later got pregnant for her second child thus developing the paralysis around her legs again thus forcing her to use a wheelchair.
" She successfully delivered her second daughter but it didn't change her situation as even her husband took off, in 2014, she developed fistula and was in Terrewode in Jinja, later came back home but three months later she developed health issues around the waist that made her fail even to move further but was later taken to the main hospital for medication but nothing changed",
She also narrated with a heavy sorrowful voice that Anyumel started developing wounds in 2015 but because of fear of informing the people within her, she went mute but her daughter who used to bathe her reported to the people.
Because of the unattended sores and other illnesses and lack of social support, her condition reached where it is today.
A number of well-wishers since turned up to rescue the ailing mother and her family and also includes, including Rotary Club Soroti, a medical team from Soroti, Tiktokers, the business community, members of the public, and the Baptist church who committed to take up the daughters education from next term fully in boarding section of Goshen Primary school in Soroti city and also medical support through the Baptist church hospital at Senior quarters in western division in Soroti City.
