LWEZA – Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu, the presidential flag bearer for the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), has today been duly nominated by the Electoral Commission to contest in the 2026 General Election.

Muntu arrived at the Electoral Commission headquarters in Lweza, along Entebbe Road, where officials confirmed and processed his nomination. His clearance sets the stage for his second presidential bid as he once again prepares to challenge incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who has held power since 1986.

Speaking shortly after his nomination, Muntu reaffirmed his commitment to offering Ugandans a new political direction anchored on integrity, accountability, and a peaceful transition of leadership. He pledged to prioritize governance reforms, national reconciliation, and economic transformation as key pillars of his campaign.

According to the ANT leadership, Muntu’s nomination is a major milestone for the party and signals their readiness to engage Ugandans across the country with a message of hope and renewal.

The Electoral Commission continues with the nomination exercise for presidential aspirants as part of its preparations for the 2026 polls, which are expected to feature a competitive field of candidates.

With his nomination now confirmed, ANT has announced plans to roll out a nationwide campaign trail in the coming weeks.
