As schools across the country prepare to reopen on February 10, the Iteso Paramount Chief, His Royal Highness Papa Emorimor Paul Sande Etomeileng Emolot, has rallied parents to prioritize education and ensure that all school-going children report back to class without delay.
Speaking ahead of the new school term, Emorimor emphasized that education remains the most powerful tool for transforming families and communities in Teso. He urged parents and guardians to put aside other engagements and focus on securing a better future for their children through consistent school attendance.
“The festive season is over, politics is also over. I now encourage my people to ensure that children return to school as we all aim at building a better future,” Emorimor said. He stressed that while cultural events and political activities may come and go, education must remain a constant priority in every household.
The cultural leader, whose reign has strongly prioritized education, recently launched the “Emorimor Education Fund Pocket,” an initiative aimed at supporting children from disadvantaged and vulnerable backgrounds. The fund seeks to provide financial assistance for school fees, scholastic materials, and other essential requirements to ensure that no child in Teso is left behind due to poverty.
According to close aides, the initiative was established in response to the growing number of bright but underprivileged learners who struggle to remain in school. Through the fund, Emorimor hopes to mobilize resources from well-wishers, development partners, and members of the Iteso community both at home and in the diaspora to invest in the region’s human capital.
Emorimor noted that education is not only a personal asset but a collective investment for the future of Teso. He observed that communities with educated populations are better positioned to fight poverty, reduce crime, and attract development opportunities.
His renewed call comes in the wake of concerns over the region’s performance in the 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). The Paramount Chief expressed dissatisfaction with the overall results and challenged all stakeholders to reflect and take responsibility.
He appealed to teachers to strengthen their commitment in the classroom, urging them to dedicate more time and effort toward improving learner outcomes. At the same time, he called upon parents to provide a conducive environment for study at home and to closely monitor their children’s academic progress.
Pupils were also reminded of their role in achieving better results. Emorimor encouraged them to remain disciplined, attentive in class, and focused on their studies if they were to compete favorably at the national level.
Education observers and community leaders have praised Emorimor for his consistent advocacy for improved academic standards in Teso. Many note that, unlike some leaders who focus solely on ceremonial duties, Emorimor has actively engaged in mobilizing resources and sensitizing communities on the importance of education.
His involvement in promoting education has included attending school events, engaging district education officials, and publicly recognizing schools and students who perform well. The establishment of the Emorimor Education Fund Pocket is seen as a practical step that goes beyond rhetoric to directly address financial barriers faced by vulnerable families.
As the new school term approaches, Emorimor’s message resonates strongly across the region: education must be treated as a shared responsibility. Parents, teachers, leaders, and learners alike are being called upon to play their part in improving performance and securing a brighter future for Teso.
With renewed commitment and collective effort, Emorimor believes the region can reverse the trend of poor performance and position its children for greater opportunities in the years ahead.
