Team OMO stands by the soroti city vendors over ongoing market irregularities

SOROTI CITY - The former Soroti City East MP flag aspirant who contested as an independent NRM leaning candidate, Omoding Herbert Olaboro popularly known as OMO, is the latest addition to jump in to the Soroti City market vendors' demonstration pan to protest against the exorbitant charges meted on the vendors by City authorities and the irregularities ongoing at the market.

 

"As team OMO, we vehemently disagree with the exorbitant charges imposed by the city authorities to the Soroti city market occupants, this is depriving the already struggling business community of Teso and Soroti market at play",

 

He further explained that he decision to stand with the market vendors comes up following the a series of complaints that were raised out and promised to be part of the team to petition the speaker of Parliament.

 

"However, I call upon the RCC office to help intervene on this matter, as we cannot be double sided by giving out PDM cash with one hand and the other hand there",

 

He also explained that there are a section of people who are suffocating the businesses thus promising to up the speed by joining the team so as to ensure that sanity is restored.

 

The Soroti market vendors had a demonstration on Friday,30th,June,2023 where they matched and delivered a petition to the city woman MP requesting her to deliver it to the speaker of Parliament so that matters affecting them can be sorted out.

 

In her speech, Joan Alobo accused some authorities for extorting money from the vendors and kicking some of them out having failed to pay money even with out allocation report.

 

She urged the vendors to remain united as she stands by them.

 

In their petition, the vendors called for an election of new market leaders, proper allocation of market stalls, accountability of money meant for the SACCO that mysteriously disappeared, an end to extortion of money paid for lock up spaces and a proper amount be charged monthly etc.

 

It should also be noted that the Soroti market was financed by a loan from the African Development (AFDB) bank will accommodate over 1320 market vendors and a number of facilities, which include; market stalls, banks, fire, pharmacy and day care facility spaces.
